Exercise rehabilitation

The UWA Exercise and Performance Centre (EPC) is the home to an integrated exercise rehabilitation clinic that aims to improve clients physical functioning and health-related quality of life through physical activity.

The multidisciplinary team at EPC specialises in the prevention, rehabilitation and management of musculoskeletal pathologies and chronic conditions. Using an evidence-based and client-centred approach, the team at EPC aims to promote the restoration of or improvement in clients well being and function.

Active rehabilitation and patient education is emphasised as the key components of long lasting positive health outcomes.

Exercise physiology

Exercise physiology focuses on evidence-based exercise and movement strategies to promote the restoration of, or improvement in function and wellness.

Accredited exercise physiologists can provide support for people with:

  • musculoskeletal conditions (i.e., arthritis)
  • cardiovascular and pulmonary conditions
  • osteoporosis
  • cancer (including post surgical recovery)
  • age related decline
  • chronic pain and fatigue
  • pre- and post-surgical rehabilitation (joint replacement or reconstruction)
  • neuromuscular exercise therapy (Parkinson’s disease, cerebral palsy, multiple sclerosis, brain or spinal injury)
  • and many more.

Exercise physiology services available at UWA EPC include:

  • comprehensive health assessments
  • health and musculoskeletal assessments
  • development of tailored exercise programs to promote function and manage health conditions listed above (home or clinic based exercise)
  • clinical pilates
  • fully supervised exercise rehabilitation clinic
  • small group classes (incl. Pilates and Aqua)
  • hydrotherapy (individual and group)
  • Motor Vehicle Accident, Department of Veterans Affairs and Workers Compensation programs

Specialised Exercise Rehabilitation Programs are also available including:

  • Swimming365 - Aquatic exercise program for the prevention and management of Type 2 Diabetes
  • Healthy Hearts - Cardiac Rehabilitation Program
  • CanMoves - Exercise Management Program during or post cancer diagnosis.

Physiotherapy

Physiotherapy services at UWA cater for clients needing acute treatment, ongoing management or sport specific rehabilitation. Thorough musculoskeletal assessment and movement analysis in conjunction with AEPs allows a unique approach to complex cases resulting in individually tailored treatment and movement-based interventions.

Specific services available at UWA include:

  • musculoskeletal rehabilitation
  • sport specific injury prevention, management and rehabilitation
  • supervised return to sport
  • specialised techniques including Commander Muscle Testing, Mulligan Belt Technique, Dry Needling, Real Time Ultrasound and functional taping
  • occupation related pain/discomfort including cervicogenic headaches
  • MVA/DVA and worker’s compensation claims.

Referrals

You do not require a referral to attend any of our services. However, any information your doctor or specialist is able to provide is helpful when assessing and designing any treatment or training plans. Prior to participating in any exercise medical clearance may be required from your GP and we can advise and assist you with this if required.

Rebates - Medicare and/or Private Health

All our staff are accredited with the relevant professional bodies and Medicare or Private Health Rebates may apply for our services. You can find out if you are eligible for rebates from your Private Health Fund by contacting them directly and enquiring about Physiotherapy or Exercise Physiology services.

Payment of services is required on the day of service via cash, cheque or EFTPOS and HICAPS facilities are available for on-the-spot claiming.
