Two-day workshop

Talking about science
Minimum: 10 people
Maximum: 15 people
Cost: $550 / participant (inclusive of GST)
Based on a two consecutive days at UWA.
Includes: Tuition, materials, parking permit, morning and afternoon tea and lunches, record of interviews.

Day 1

  • Oral communication: Why is it important?
  • Preparing a talk: What is your key message?
  • Targeting your audience: Making it relevant!
  • Practical activity: Impromptu talks - feedback.
  • Delivery of your talk: Tips.
  • Handling questions.
  • Practical activity: Prepared talks - feedback.

Day 2

  • Using visuals: Is a picture worth a thousand words?
  • Using presentation software: PowerPoint or PowerPointless?
  • Practical activity: Prepared talks using presentation software - video and feedback.

Note: You are expected to prepare a talk between session one and session two including a draft PowerPoint presentation. Computers will be made available so you can modify and finalise your presentation.
