Media and Communications Coordinator
Chem Centre, Bentley, WA

My science communication units at UWA were focused on undertaking projects very similar to those you would encounter in a science communication job, and I felt that this was a real advantage when I started to move into the job market.

After graduating I worked at Scitech, having worked there casually while at UWA. I was primarily responsible for creating engaging science shows and experiences for visitors. I gained a lot of experience due to the range of projects I was able to tackle.

In 2009 I joined ChemCentre. I am responsible for the public profile of the organisation - this covers everything from media duties through to marketing and all communication related activities in between. I have also started a science communication consultancy, with my biggest project to date involving the development and delivery of a presentation for UWA, featuring its high profile scientists for Malaysian audiences.

I have had some fantastic opportunities throughout my career so far, presenting my work to international audiences, performing annually at the National Science Week science comedy debates, and MCing the Premier’s Science Awards.

What advice would you give someone who is considering taking up a degree in Science at UWA?

Science degrees at UWA will equip you with invaluable skills that can help make you the stand out candidate when entering the job market.
