The Dean's Excellence in Science PhD Scholarships

The Faculty of Science is offering a limited number of prestigious postgraduate research scholarships to academically outstanding international and domestic students wishing to undertake a research doctorate degree (PhD) in the Faculty of Science.

Applications open 1 July - 31 August 2018 for international students with commencement in 2019
and 1 September - 31 October 2018 for domestic students with commencement in 2019.

Scholarship value

All Dean’s Excellence in Science PhD Scholars will receive a scholarship package which includes:

  • A stipend living allowance of $40,000 per annum
  • Research travel/conference allowance of $5000 per annum
  • A research operating and submission costs allowance of $5000 per annum
  • Overseas student single health cover (for international students)
  • Tuition fees

The scholarship package is awarded for three years, subject to satisfactory progress, with a possible extension of up to six months.

Applicants for a Dean's Excellence in Science Scholarship are required to make contact with potential supervisors before submitting their application.

Domestic applicants

Once a supervisor has been identified, domestic applicants must complete and submit the online application for the Research Training Program (RTP) scholarships as advertised on the UWA website by the advertised closing date (31 October 2018).

International applicants

Step 1: International applicants may complete the online enquiry form that helps us match your research interests with potential supervisors.

Step 2: Once a supervisor has been identified, International applicants must then complete and submit the online application for the International Research Training Program (RTP) scholarships advertised on the UWA website by the advertised closing date (31 August 2018). Follow the iAthena link in the above page to submit your online application.

Important dates

International applications open:

1 July - 31 August 2018 for - for commencement in the first semester of 2019.

Eligibility

To be considered for the Dean’s Excellence in Science PhD Scholarship applicants must satisfy the following criteria:

  1. International students must meet the eligibility requirements for International Research Training Program scholarships (RTP).
  2. Domestic students must meet the eligibility requirements for Research Training Program scholarships (RTP).

Conditions of award

There are a limited number of Dean's Excellence in Science PhD Scholarships and applicants should be aware that they are awarded on an academic merit-based, competitive basis.

Selection process

Selection for a Dean's Excellence in Science PhD Scholarship is a merit-based and highly competitive process. Candidates will be selected in accordance with the following criteria:

  • Demonstrated academic excellence through current studies
  • Demonstrated high quality, innovative research capacity
  • English Language achievement

Applications will be reviewed and final selections decided by a committee comprising the Executive Dean of the Faculty of Science, and a minimum of two Heads of School and academic staff.
