The Faculty of Science has a dedicated Senior Student Experience Adviser, Dr Megan Ellyard. Megan actively seeks feedback from students, implements a broad range of projects or helps other faculty members to implement student-focused projects aimed at enhancing the student experience, and constantly evaluates the student lifecycle.
- Student clubs and societies
The Faculty of Science is host to a wide variety of student-run clubs and societies. Getting involved in such clubs can greatly enrich your UWA student experience, and puts you in contact with people that share common interests and are going through a similar experience. Student clubs and societies are an excellent support network.
- Local volunteering
Volunteering is a great way to gain valuable experience, meet new people and expand your professional networks. Guild volunteering coordinates a wide range of volunteering opportunities in the local community and on UWA campus. On-campus experiences are also advertised via Current Students: Volunteering. Of particular interest, consider being a UniMentor.
Take your volunteering potential to the next level with organisations such as AIESEC or Enactus. You can travel overseas to complete a global internship, or you may choose to work on a global initiative from UWA campus.
- Global learning
There are a wide range of global learning opportunities available to you. These include student exchange programs, independent study abroad, short term programs specific to Faculty of Science students and UWA overseas units. Further information on study abroad programs and study abroad scholarships can be found via the UWA Global Studio. Check your study abroad plans are compatible with your course structure by contacting the Science Student Office.
- Service learning
Some units include a Service Learning component. This means that they have community engagement activities embedded into their curriculum.
- 'Undergraduate community' on the LMS
You will find more opportunities on the LMS under an Organisation called the 'Science Undergraduate Community.' This features ad-hoc opportunities such as discipline-specific internships, work experience, volunteering opportunities, scholarships and more as they arise. These opportunities come and go throughout the year so check this regularly and be mindful of application due dates.
