My degree in Environmental Science has enabled me to pursue a lifelong passion for the natural world.

I have always had a keen interest in preserving and understanding the environment. I spent much of my childhood involved with the Gould League, learning about birds, reptiles, frogs and water ecology and later I became a volunteer with the World Wildlife Fund.

The laboratory work and field trips were a highlight of the degree along with the personal relationships with fellow students and friendly staff. The lab and field work gave me a technical understanding of how the natural world works and allowed me to put into practice the theory I learnt through lectures.

Voluntary work on weekends and during holidays took me from Esperance in the south to Port Hedland in the north as I became involved with various environmental projects from trapping insects to tagging turtles.

My volunteer work led to a full-time position with the Perth Museum, where I classify and illustrate spiders and other invertebrates, such as scorpions and shizomids.

I have set up an environmental education website with a fellow graduate to raise people’s awareness of the natural world.
