When you re-enrol online, faculty staff will check your enrolment and contact you if there are problems with unit selection. You can also check to see if your units are valid via studentConnect.
You will not receive written confirmation if your selection is approved.
Some units are restricted to a named program and cannot be taken unless you are enrolled in that program. See the science courses booklet for more details.
First of all, don't panic! Check to see if you have completed all the prerequisites for the unit. The faculty office may be able to validate the unit for you if you have completed a non-standard prerequisite - for example, A Levels rather than TEE - or if it is a quota-restricted unit.
We may contact you via your student email during the enrolment process, so check your student email regularly, including during University holidays, and make sure your contact details are up-to-date in studentConnect.
To present a case for approval of a non-standard enrolment, you will need to complete a special approval form, but before this, we recommend you get advice.
You need to complete two compulsory units in your first year:
Both units carry zero points and are delivered via WebCT. You cannot withdraw from these units.
You can apply to change your units by the end of the third week of semester. The last dates for adding or withdrawing from a unit without incurring academic penalty are available from the university handbook.
If you drop out of a unit without formally withdrawing from it (via studentConnect prior to census date or after the census date by lodging a change of enrolment form), you will be given a FAIL result. The same applies if you withdraw after the last permitted date. You will also be liable for student contribution amounts (previously known as HECS fees) for that unit.
To make a change to your enrolment:
If you are doing a combined degree course and have enquiries about your enrolment, talk to both faculties involved.
If your science major is Botany, Conservation Biology, Environmental Geoscience, Environmental Management, Geography, Geology, Land & Water Management, Marine Biology, Marine & Coastal Management, Soil Science or Zoology, or if you are in a combined course in Agriculture/Commerce, Agriculture/Economics, BSc (four-year)/Commerce, BSc (four-year)/Economics, contact the Faculty of Natural & Agricultural Sciences.
For all other majors, contact the Faculty of Life & Physical Sciences.
Rules for combined courses are different in some respects from those for the single degree, so you need to check these carefully. They are summarised in the relevant pages of science courses booklet.
If you want to come out of a combined course and enrol in the Bachelor of Science only, you can apply for transfer into a single degree. You must submit a formal application by the date specified each semester by student administration.
