Textbooks and calculators

Textbook options

A list of the required books for your units can be found in the University Co-operative Bookshop in the Guild Village. Details of textbooks for each course are also available for each unit in the online handbook.

We advise you to wait for your first lectures before purchasing textbooks, as these lists may vary at the discretion of the unit co-ordinator.

Cheaper options include:

  • If there is a selection of recommended reading rather than a single textbook, use the University libraries.
  • If you are a member of the Co-op, you are entitled to a discount on books purchased at the bookshop.
  • At the second-hand bookshop on campus, located in the Guild Village, many textbooks are available at a reasonable price.
  • Keep an eye on notice boards around campus for previous students selling their used textbooks.

Do I need a new calculator?

Only approved calculators can be used in tests or exams. The Faculty of Engineering, Computing and Mathematics maintains a list of approved calculators. Bring your calculator to our faculty office to have an authorised sticker attached to it.
