This graduate diploma provides an avenue for further study under certain circumstances, if you:

  • are ineligible for entry to Honours at UWA
  • want proceed to Master's candidature
  • want an advanced qualification in a specific area of expertise

Course outline

The Graduate Diploma in Science (Exercise Rehabilitation) offers candidates the opportunity to gain a qualification in a specific area of professional training. Successful completion will satisfy the requirements necessary for specialist Exercise Physiologist accreditation by Exercise and Sports Science Australia.


The course is designed to provide a holistic understanding of the use of exercise in the treatment of musculoskeletal and cardiovascular disability. Students are provided with a background in pathology and the contra-indications which apply in exercise therapy during the chronic stage of rehabilitation.

On successful completion of the Graduate Diploma, students are eligible to apply for admission to the Master’s program. From 2012 commonwealth supported places will be available for all domestic sutdents in the program.

  • SSEH 8634 Advanced Neuromuscular Biomechanics
  • SSEH 7654 Advanced Concepts in Motor Control and Learning
  • SSEH 8667 Paediatric Exercise Rehabilitation
  • SSEH 8685 Worksite Health Promotion

Admission requirements

A recognised Bachelor’s degree with a major in sport and exercise science (or equivalent) with a weighted average of at least 60 per cent and which includes a set of approved units including practical experience.

English Language Competence

All applicants for UWA coursework programs must demonstrate a minimum level of English Language Competence.
